MASTERS CLASS

The Master Class is for graduates of Expedition Skills II who are ready to journey down a complex and challenging stretch of coastline with experienced expedition paddlers where a firm foundation in seamanship and paddling skills is essential. Paddlers without the prerequisite courses demonstrating extensive paddling skills will be considered. This course is ideal for people who are ready to undertake a more challenging sea kayak expedition yet, would like to do it with a group of similarly trained paddlers lead by instructors with expedition experience and extensive local knowledge.

The course starts from Port Hardy on the Northern tip of Vancouver Island. Participants will be transported to the start of the route on the BC Central coast. Once everyone’s paddling and rescue skills have been warmed up the emphasis is shifted to a quick review of seamanship for kayakers relevant to the route in particular and pacific coast environment in general. The balance of the course is devoted to paddling one of the most beautiful and challenging routes in the world. Daily planning sessions and debriefings are a core component of this course.

We supply single Seaward Kayaks http://www.seawardkayaks.com, yet we do encourage you to bring your own boat and equipment as long as it meets the approval of the field instructor. We also recommend a gore-tex dry suit for this trip http://www.kokatat.com

The first Master Class is offered in the summer of 2005 on the BC Central Coast. Group size is limited to eight.
